How can I incorporate my social justice beliefs into my business?

Hi Steph,

I’ve been watching your Transparency Tuesday updates for a while and am really interested in doing something similar in my own business but I don’t know where to start. There is so much hardship and inequality in the world and I don’t know how I can make a difference. I want to be more vocal about my values but I’m worried that it’s not appropriate for what I do. Besides, there are so many issues from anti-racism to disaster relief and it can be hard to know what I should prioritize. How did you set up your own system for bringing these efforts into your business and how do you stay consistent with them?

Thanks for your help,

Striving for Social Justice

Ask Steph: How to Build Social Justice Into Your Business – Stephanie Pellett CreativeIt’s a lifelong journey, so make it sustainable.

Trust me, I get how overwhelming it can feel to start trying to build a more ethical and transparent business. Through sharing my values & actions more transparently over the course of the past year, I have learned a LOT about myself. I have also learned a lot about how I want to show up in my business.

I’ll break it to you right now: there’s no “one-size-fits-all” strategy or checklist for you to follow. Every business is different, and only you can decide what is right for your specific business and personality. Instead of searching for the answers outside of yourself, I encourage you to look inwards & figure out what is right for you. And be ready to experiment! The key is to find what works, and that process usually takes a lot of trial and error.

In today’s video, I’m sharing some of the strategies that I have been using over the past year as I have more intentionally built my social justice values into my business and brand. They’re not “tips”: they’re mindset shifts that I think will be useful as you start this journey in your own business. Watch right here:

Small steps = big change.

Becoming an intentional, values-based, ethical, anti-racist business is the work of a lifetime. It is not an overnight shift or a switch that gets flipped. Instead, we need to focus on slow, sustainable, consistent efforts that are ideally baked into the way we run our businesses on an everyday basis. What system could you create to give back every time you get a new client or sale? How can you design your marketing efforts to use only inclusive language? The answers are inside you, and the world is waiting to hear them.

I’d love to know: What do you already do in your business to create a more just & equitable world? What ideas do you have for incorporating these values into your business? Let me know in the comments below or over on Instagram @stephpellett. 📣 ⬇️

And if you want even more support in bringing these values into your business, come check out our Social Justice Values Session recording in The Profoundery! This is my community of intentional, values-based entrepreneurs. Every month we have a workshop or group gathering to discuss some important element of online business. This session was very rich in ideas & discussions, and the recording is available inside The Profoundery Library when you join the membership. Hope to see you there!
